Hair loss -- Everyone is saying something different, how does one determine what exactly they need?

Ok, I feel like I've read just about every question/answer on yahoo regarding hair loss, shampoos, conditioners, this that, blah blah blah, and to be quite honest, I'm very confused because I'm hearing different things everywhere I go.

I'm a 22 yr. old male, everyone in my family (past and present) has had a full head of hair well into their 70s and 80s. I'm noticing a slight bit of hair loss, mostly in the front-to-mid section of the scalp, some look like mini bald spots while some might be mistaken for "hair parts" like when you comb your hair to one side.

I just starting taking a multivitamin, trying to eat healthier now and relax as well. I was using selsun blue for almost a year 'cuz I had a dandruff problem, I didn't know when to stop using it and I was washing every day. So now I havent washed my hair in 2 days, I stopped using selsun and am trying to find the right stuff to use.

Here's the thing...no one solution is going to work for every one. You need to experiment with different things to see what works best for you. However, you are 22 and YOU could or SHOULD be able to go to a doctor on your own and pay out of your pocket if it concerns you that much...the only thing is that a general practitioner may send you to a dermatologist who may then send you to a scalp specialist and each one is going to want to run some tests and it is going to add up quickly. It would be much easier for you to try some of the online suggestions.

Now, being that I am a self-proclaimed product junkie...I reccomend NIOXIN products. You can find them in a salon. Call several salons in your area and ask if they carry them and then go in and get a hair stylist to show you which combo you need to try. You do have to use it for a while but I know several people that now have fuller thicker hair and regrowth in thinning places on their head. But you must be patient. And i don't think that the number of times you wash your hair has anything to do with you losing it. Maybe using higher quality products would be better for you rather than the stuff you can buy at a grocery store.

OR you could just shave it all off and go with that look.

Get yourself to a reputable salon a good hair dresser can answer your questions and point you in the right direction in what you should do.

Have you tried taking a multi-vitamin and applying coconut oil in the areas of baldness while massaging the scalp. Massaging the scalp helps to open up lazy hair follicles. Try it, it worked for my uncle. He applied a small amount of coconut oil (it safe for all hair types) to his scalp nightly and massaged it for about 5 minutes per bald spot and he had an amazing growth spurt in a matter of 2 weeks. You can also try other oils if you are allergic to coconut. Hope this helps!

Get a mild shampoo with vitamin E in it...this vitamin helps your hair grow. Using selsun blue for too long probably didn't help your hair either. It has very harsh chemicals in it and will eat at the folicles. Get a seperate conditioner that isn't too heavy. Wash your hair every other day, not every day. Do not over process your hair (hair dryer use, gels, mousse, hairspray, etc.). Massage through your scalp or have someone else massage it where the hair is thin using a vitamin E base. Brush your hair with a soft brush and do not use a detangler on it when it is wet. You should brush your hair at least twice a day. This should help. Good Luck!

I take biotin to make my hair grow and it really works! It's from the b-vitamin family. I also knew a lady who was sick for a while and she lost a lot of hair. Her dr. told her to start taking biotin and about six months later, her hair is back to normal.

I have also used Dr. Miracles Gro Balm. You can find it at a beauty supply store.

As for shampoo and conditioner, I would suggest something that is going to deep clean and unclog your pores. I really like Burt's Bees Grapefruit and Ginger Beet shampoo and conditioner. You can find it at CVS or any big retailer or naturals store.

For now, go ahead and wash your hair since it needs it. You should shampoo at least every other day. But I think men should shampoo every day. Good Luck!

I think the first thing you should do is go to a dermatologist and then go from there.
