Okay, I am a boy with really long hair, in fact my bangs if not combed to the sides would reach my chin. The back of my hair reaches close to the top of my shirt on my back. Anyways, I always comb my hair to the right hand side for me, left hand side if you are facing me.

I was paying for my meal this morning after a nice long breakfast of chocolate chip pancakes and there were a lot of people in line. I was wearing one of my winter coats. Anyways, I was on the opposite side of the register as a long line of people (having gotten there first), and when I was about to get my change back, the person behind the counter had forgotten who payed. One of the women in line said it was the "girl over there" but she quickly corrected herself by calling me a boy without anyone saying anything. I reached out my hand to get the money and left.

I felt kind of embarrassed after leaving about having been called a girl.

I HATE long hair on boys. sorry it completely grosses me out. and yes most people think that if you have long hair you are a girl because boys look more like boys if they have short hair. and she could have just saw your back and though you were a tomboy. if you like long hair keep it. if it embarrasses you chop it off. your choice. hope i helped.

Your physical appearance can be changed by anything. You can look like a girl with long hair, depending on if you straighten it, etc...

My friend straightens his hair, and looking at his hair from the behind makes him look like a girl. I think it looks more masculine when grown out without touching it (besides washing)

back in the 60's it was extremely common, by mid 70's not so and now days yes--most males have definite male cut if longer, and even more still have short hair--which by the way I hear most girls like the shorter style--the guy looks like he cares about taking care of himself---I hear same comment from girls about pants below the butt--they don't care for that either--a lot of the girls says it looks like the guy can't afford anything better fitting.

it is one indicative trait of a girl, but that dosent mean a guy cant have long hair.

like, just think about it- if were in a foggy room and could barely see, and you see a blob with long hair, and had to guess the gender, you would probably assume they were a girl.

thats probably what the lady did at first glance, but then saw your face and realised you were a guy.

dont take it personally, and dont feel embarassed. that dosent mean your girl-like, girl-looking or girly in any way.

be proud of your hair :) i dont meet alot of guys with long hair, and i think its amazing.

I an a 50 yo man and my hair has been down to my butt twice in my life. So I would have to say NO long hair is not indicative of being female, but some people think it is. Wait until it is half way down your back, a lot more people will mistake you for a female. It is strange, but when you turn around and they see a beard half way down your belly they quickly realize that you are not a girl.

I don't think hair length is indicative of boy or girl. My husband has very long hair, and I think it suits him well.

I guess some people do have 'old-fashioned' ideas that are still evolving. If you were mostly covered by a winter coat, then your hair might have been what the person noticed, and she obvious jumped to a wrong conclusion. At least she corrected herself, quickly.

Not anymore, but it used to be. Don't worry it may not even have been a slip because of your hair, maybe she was distracted and just said girl by accident. Besides she's probably more embarrassed about her mess-up than you. My hubby has long hair. On alot of guys it is very hot.
