She will only sit still when I have washed it and it's still wet, so I have decided to take her in to get something done to it. What is the difference between a relaxer and a texturizer?

A relaxer straightens the hair. A texturizer makes the hair wavy/curly. If you do decide to get your daughter's hair relaxed, do not comb, wash, or let her scratch her scalp at least a day or two b4 getting it relaxed or her scalp will burn.

It's hard to say what to do. Is her hair shirt, medium, or long?

It probably hurts to have it combed out. Ask your beautician for a suggested detangler. You can actually spray it into her hair and then comb it and it will release more quickly and with less pain to her. Also, they condition the hair at the same time. The beautician can also suggest whether or not the relaxer would be a good idea for her type of hair.

I would say a relaxer. But have you tried a leave in conditioner and then try to brush it. I would try that first. Chemicals destroys hair. And she is way to young for that. Maybe a detangeler spary. I think they sell that for kids and you can get it anywhere.

Don't add a chemical to her hair, she's too young just go and get her hair braided. If she hates getting her hair comb, then why would you want a relaxer added? If you dont keep her hair up while she has the relaxer her hair will be damage and break off.

A relaxer relaxes the curl pattern, makes hair straight even when it get wet.

A texturizer is a chemical almost like a relaxer but does not completely straighten the hair, but loosens the curl.

My Mom used to buy a detangling spray to comb my hair when I was little. I think it was called No More Tangles or something like that. Try that first.

Also, take more time and slow down when combing her hair and just do a little at a time. Don't run the comb straight down from the roots to the ends all at once. Go slowly and move your hand down the shaft of the hair gradually. Don't be in too much of a hurry. Oddly, my Dad was always much more gentle in combing my hair than my Mom was.

Maybe short hair is the key here - any kind of permanent or semi-permanent product is bad for a child's hair and can more damage than good. Some can burn the scalp or cause hair to fall out permanently.
